Read what our patients have to say about us... Before coming to stow-kent chiropractic, "my neck had a constant pain or stiffness, then i began noticing a numbing sensation in my right arm which progressed to discoloration of my fingers. they would actually turn bluish grey. this caused a great deal of discomfort and a lack of concentration while i tried to perform my work duties or family activities. at one point the pain became so intense that i was unable to move from bed for three days. i was taking a muscle relaxer and hanging out with "Ben gay" on a regular basis. i went to the crystal clinic to seek medical attention. they sent me for an mri and i was advised that there was a disc herniation that was causing pressure on the nerve. i was given a prescription for arthritis and advised that to fix the herniation, my options were cortisone shots (temporary relief) or to consider surgery. i left there in tears because i did not feel either option was positive. my husband was not pleased with the reports and asked me to go to stow-kent chiropractic. shortly after the initial adjustments the numbing and discoloration discontinued. as the treatment continued, the constant pain in my neck minimized. i now use the flexband to strengthen my neck muscles where i once avoided any movement at all. dr. shimmel and his staff have done so much to improve my health while at the same time made me feel like part of the family. i don't need a muscle relaxer and the "ben gay" has gone back on the shelf. i was so impressed by the way the staff treated everyone and the results i received from adjustments i referred 6 people to this office." ---Tamara b. Before coming to Stow-Kent Chiropractic, "I had severe pain in my left arm and shoulder. I was unable to sit, drive, or concentrate for more than a few minutes at a time. It left me unproductive. I had problems sleeping, sitting, and driving. I just felt miserable all the time. I tried using both ibuprofen and muscle relaxers." After starting chiropractic care, "I could move freely. I felt like moving again. I just drove to Florida. 16 hours and I have never felt better. I have less headaches and no more arm or hip pain. Also, I have noticed that my hands no longer go numb for long periods of time. Dr. Shimmel and co. are the best. I tell everybody. I'm a believer. What a great experience." ---Gregg B. "I was diagnosed with a very large herniated disc. I had intense pain down my right leg all the way to my foot. I also had numbness in my foot. I could not sit down without experiencing severe pain and/or spasms. I had to stand up to eat comfortably. I missed may days of work from not being able to sleep at night or difficulty driving a car. After I was diagnosed, my family doctor prescribed pain medication. I went to see a surgeon and he recommended surgery. I asked about chiropractic treatment. After the surgeon discovered it was Dr. Shimmel, he suggested that I try this path of treatment. Every symptom that I had prior to chiropractic treatment has gone away. I have no pain when I sit to eat or drive a car. I can even sleep again. All without having surgery!!" ---Kris B. Before coming to Stow-Kent Chiropractic, "I had terrible pain in my right side and pain in my right hip. I also had lower back pain. The pain prevented me from moving around. I had to use a walker to do everything. I went to the doctor because I thought I might need another hip replacement. After examining me, he said I didn't need surgery but I had to come in for some therapy. I got no relief at all. he then suggested a series of pain blocks - 3 to be exact - no relief. The only thing I got from this was an outrageous bill. It was about $1600 and this gave me another pain. My daughter's friend suggested I try your clinic and I certainly am happy that I did. I came in using a walker and after several adjustments, i started using a cane to get around. I am happy to say that i am walking on my own now and am pain free. my visists are once a month now." ---Betty H. "In 2000 i had what appeared to be a stroke. They never found a blood clot, but I lost a lot of my ability to walk, talk normally, and maintain my balance. i went to physical therapy, but i still had to walk with a cane on an everyday basis. i was taking prescription medications every other day. i saw a neurologist and a physical therapist before finally coming to stow-kent chiropractic for care. now, i stand straighter and i breathe better. i have better mobility and i no longer use a cane on a daily basis." ---patricia J. "I had been having headaches in the back of my head. Eventually, they became so bad that I could not concentrate, lie down, sit down, and I was irritable. i also had neck pain - tightness that was preventing me from moving correctly. i had to turn my body instead of just my head. i had a lot of trouble finding a comfortable position in bed or sitting. i was also dizzy because of this and it prevented me from doing things at work or slowed me down. every movement i made i had to think about. i couldn't concentrate and my grades were not as good. i went to my family doctor and he sent me to physical therapy - the headaches got worse. then i went to a neurologist and still nothing. no one took an x-ray or cat scan to see if anything was wrong. then i came to dr. shimmel with my brother's recommendation. you see, i live an hour away and was already skeptical of chiropractors. what a long drive for this not to work i thought. after a month or so of coming to stow, my headaches started going away. i was not as dizzy. I could sleep and sit. my grades improved because i could concentrate. i could perform my work tasks better and easier. i feel so much better and with the flexbands, i will feel so much more relief." ---terri l. before coming to stow-kent chiropractic, "I was in a car accident. i had pain in my lower back, right leg, and a tingle all the time. it was hard to get in and out of the car. i could not lift heavy trays at work as a waitress. side work of stocking was sometimes hard to do. it slowed me down. i really did a lot in my life that i took for granted. now i realize what can happen so fast with one part of you body not in line. after about a week of treatment (at stow-kent chiropractic), the tingle started to go away. i started being able to get back in my routine at work and home after a couple more treatments and exercising here." ---janet e. "I had a pinched nerve in my neck which sent severe pain shooting down my neck, across my back, and down my left arm into my hand. i was unable to hold my head up without the pain shooting down my arm. it was difficult to do anything without the pain being a factor. it was difficult to work or drive. even sleeping was a problem. i could not even get into a comfortable position to watch t.v. i went to our family doctor who prescribed a muscle relaxer and pain medication and sent me to physical therapy. after a week and a half the condition did not improve. after coming to stow-kent chiropractic, i met with dr. rai and started treatments. after the first week with three treatments, i was getting relief from the extreme pain. by the end of the second week, the pain was very manageable and no longer radiated across my back. all without the use of medication prescribed by my family doctor. as the treatments continued, the pain went away entirely. with the use of the flexband and follow-up visits, i have not had a reccurence. dr. rai and the staff have been great. everyone is always courteous and helfful and there is very little waiting when i arrive for my appointments. i have recommended stow-kent chiropractic clinic to other family members and friends." ---steve d. "I was experiencing extreme vertigo quite frequently - not only when i got up from a seated position, but also while moving from place to place. this made me feel very unsure of myself. i wasn't able to work around the house - going up a ladder, cleaning gutters, or other normal activities without worrying about falling or walking into a wall. my regular physician sent me to several ent physicians, none of whom provided any relief. an mri of my head revealed no abnormalities. one md told me, 'what do you expect? you're an old man'...i was 79 at the time. my wife mentioned the problem to dr. shimmel at one of her routine adjustments and he suggested i see dr. rai, who had experience in this field. i made an appointment with dr. rai and under his care got almost immediate relief. he instructed me a technique to use in order to alleviate the problem and monitored my progress for several visits. now i continue the exercise he taught me at least three times a week and have had no reccurence of the problem. i'm back up the ladders and am sure of myself when i walk or move from one position to antoher." ---roy s. before coming to stow-kent chiropractic, "i was in such extreme pain in my lower back and down my left leg to my foot i couldn't function. i am sure my children were tired of my complaining when they called. it was a good thing that i was retired and lived alone. i wasn't pleasant to be around. i was unable to function. i couldn't go shopping with my girls, do yard work, take long rides, or keep my grandchildren overnight. it was so painful to move, sit, get in and out of a car, turn over in bed, or walk. i felt like my life was over. all the things i enjoyed doing or needed to do, i couldn't. i had been very active. i didn't know what to do. thank goodness for dr. j! (previously) i went to my m.d. and took muscle relaxants and 6 to 9 advil a day. i also had gone previously to physical therapy, but it didn't last. i had a mri." After starting treatment at stow-kent chiropractic, "gradually, i got better. they tought me how to sit and bend. i exercise with the flexband. now i have my life back. i can do most of the things i did before the pain. life is wonderful. i have my grandchildren overnight, mow the grass, and work outside for short times. i don't take advil anymore. i laugh and joke with my children again! i am so grateful to dr. j and all the staff. everyone is great - so helpful and pleasant. thank you!!!!" ---Aleta D. "my initial visits were because i had injured my lower back at work from moving furniture and miscellaneous materials preparing for a new school year. i was stiff and sore all the time. it was difficult to move around freely and limited my abilities to complete my work effectively and efficiently. it also impaired my drive to finish tasks around the house, which i typically enjoyed doing (lawn mowing, gardening, walking my dogs). general housekeeping duties were left undone; i wasn't able to ride my bike; moving throughout my classroom to work with students was difficult. i was extremely uncomfortable sitting down for any length of time and sleeping was next to impossible. i struggled with being able to carry my satchel of books and papers which needed to be graded. i had been to an m.d. i had x-rays and was put on a muscle relaxant as the x-rays did not indicate a problem with the bones. i used a heating pad periodically and some 'deep penetrating' topical ointment to try to get relief. once i began chiropractic care, i felt improvement and relief from the nagging pain. it brought on the change in such a short period of time that i was certain i could get right back into my pre-injury level of activity. this caused a few set-backs for me, but more frequent adjustments and therapy treatments corrected my problems again. now i am visiting for 'maintenance' adjustments and enjoy my life more fully because of it!" ---sallie k. |
